HHS Medical Academy

Mission/ Vision

The Medical Academy challenges all students to see opportunities in medicine whether they are becoming a medical professional or handling their own life experiences.  With the help of our community, students develop the foundation of medical knowledge and are inspired to become ethical and empathetic citizens who are empowered to use 21st Century skills to solve today’s problems and understand success in medicine is dependent on life-long learning.

What is the Medical Academy at Huntley High School?

The Medical Academy provides opportunities to help prepare students for admission to collegiate programs and careers in the medical field.  By combining the foundation of medical principles through rigorous coursework with real world experiences, our students leave Huntley High School with an understanding of careers in the medical field and a hands-on experience few high school students have.

Joining the Medical Academy means more opportunities at Huntley High School for you including but not limited to preferential Medical Academy course placement, field trip opportunities, guest speaker opportunities, and job shadowing opportunities.

Students may apply their sophomore or junior year for admittance into the Academy.  Once admitted, students may work toward achieving a Certificate of Completion or a Transcript Designation.  Please explore our pages for more information.

For more detailed information for students, please see our Medical Academy Manual.

What is PLTW?

Huntley High School has adopted a series of classes, both in the Medical and Engineering Academies, based on the Project Lead the Way curriculum and course sequencing. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes introduce students to engaging STEM curriculum that is based on interdisciplinary activities. These courses not only build knowledgeable skills, but they also empower students to develop essential skills such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance. For more information on the PLTW Biomedical sequence of courses, please see this link.
